Minimum Wage Alerts

Overview

Zeal includes a Minimum Wage Alert feature designed to help Employers stay informed about potential minimum wage violations during payroll processing. These alerts notify you when an Employee’s pay may not meet the required minimum wage for their stated work location. These alerts are informational-only; it's ultimately your responsibility as the Employer of Record to ensure compliance with all applicable wage laws.

Refer to Payroll Run for assistance setting up a payroll run in the Zeal Dashboard.

Where Do Minimum Wage Alerts Appear?

Minimum wage alerts are triggered when running payroll. Per shift, the hourly wage is compared to the work location to confirm if the wage rate falls below that jurisdiction's current minimum wage law. The alert appears:

In order to ensure the Employee will not get flagged you can confirm both Employee's listed defaults Work Location and Hourly Wage.

How to Edit Checks to Remove Minimum Wage Alerts

You are able to edit the Employee's existing hourly Shift wage or work location in the Payroll Run to remove the Minimum Wage Alert.

  1. Return to Editing: Before submitting payroll, click on the Pencil Icon in Employees and Gross pay for any Shift to modify information.

  2. Update the Wage: If necessary, adjust the worker’s wage for the Shift in the Edit Earning modal.

  3. Update the Work Location: If necessary, adjust the worker’s work location for the Shift in the Edit Earning modal.

  4. Approve and Submit Approval: Submit the entire payroll run to approve the Checks before their processing time. Even with a minimum wage alert showing on a check, you are still able to approve and submit the payroll run if you choose to have that Employee's Check processed anyway.

Important Note: Zeal's minimum wage alert is informational-only. Submitting a check with a wage below the legal minimum may expose your organization to compliance risks. It’s your responsibility as the Employer of Record to ensure that all wages meet legal standards in the relevant jurisdiction.
